Different techniques of applying make-up products are used for different types of skin. Make-up artists have suggested a number of tips and tricks but not all of them are useful.

There are a variety of make-up products and there is a chance that one can get confused while buying them. While shopping for make-up products, you must keep certain things in mind so that you end up buying the right products. You might have noticed that certain products don’t suit your skin and cause irritation on your skin. One cause for this may be that you don’t use the right product that suits your skin type. Many fashion institutes have come up with fashion styling and make-up courses to teach students the tips and tricks of doing make-up according to the different skin types.

How to Prepare Different Skin Types for Make-up?

Basically, there are 3 types of skin, oily skin, dry skin and combination skin, which generally has an oily T-zone (forehead, nose and chin). It is important that you have a clear idea about your skin type that before buying make-up products. Here are some tips for prepping your skin for make-up according to your skin type.

Oily Skin

Oily skin tends to produce a large amount of sebum (oil) which makes it difficult for the make-up to stay on the skin. Start with exfoliating your skin two to three times a day using a mild exfoliator. Hydrating your skin is very important if you have oily skin. If you opt not to hydrate, your skin will compensate by producing more oil. Use a light moisturiser to hydrate your skin.

Primer is a base product that you apply before the foundation so that your make-up can stay for a long time. Matte primer is best for oily skin type as it helps to keep the make-up from slipping off. Let your primer dry before applying the foundation. You can go for a matte and oil-free foundation and then set it with a translucent setting powder so that it can absorb the excess oil. You can also use blotting sheets to keep your skin free from the excess oil.

Dry Skin

Having dry skin can be irritating if you don’t use the right kinds of products. It feels dry, flaky and tight almost all the time. You can’t leave your skin without a moisturiser after washing your face. Dry skin lacks shine and looks dehydrated as the skin produces less oil. You must use hydrating moisturiser daily and even during the night. Dry skin is generally very sensitive, therefore you must choose products carefully so that they don’t cause any irritation to the skin. Make sure that the products are not alcohol-based as they can have an adverse effect on the skin. Choose the products that have extra moisturising ingredients like aloe vera and vitamins that can keep the skin nourished and hydrated. It is advisable not to use the setting powder as it can make your skin more dry and flaky. Moisturising foundation and creamy concealer can be used for a radiant and glowy complexion. The best thing about dry skin is that eye-shadows, blushes and foundation can stay for a long time. Keep a facial mist handy, so that you can refresh whenever you feel dry and flaky.

Combination Skin

Doing make-up on the combination skin type can be a bit tricky. You have to combine the make-up tips and tricks for both the skin types (dry skin and oily skin) to get the perfect look. Combination skin has an oily T-zone (forehead, nose and chin) and rest of the areas of the skin are dry. You must be willing to use multiple products to get a perfect look. It is advised to use a mild cleanser so that your impurities can be removed and your skin feels hydrated. Use serums that can have a mattifying effect on the T-zone and hydrating effect on the rest of your face. Choose products wisely so that they don’t cause any irritation on your skin. Before applying make-up, use a matte primer which can control the production of oil in the T-zone throughout the day. Use a light foundation that can give smooth coverage to your skin. You can use setting powder on the T-zone to make the whole make-up look even.

Keep these things in mind before you prepare your skin for make-up:

·         Facial Cleanser

Clean your face with a gentle cleanser to get rid of all the impurities before applying any make-up. It keeps your skin healthy and prevents acne & pimples.

·         Face Scrub

Exfoliate your face using a face scrub before applying make-up. You can use a face scrub three times a week.

·         Moisturiser

It is important to keep your skin hydrated. Cleansing and exfoliating can dry out your skin and make them feel tight. Therefore, put on a hydrating moisturiser to keep your skin nourished.

These three steps will get your skin ready for make-up and give you a flawless look
